The best time of year to prune or trim Oaks and Elms are from November through March. Pruning during dormancy is the most common practice. It is usually best to wait until the coldest part of the winter has passed. Spring is usually the best time to leave trees alone.

Fruit Trees

For fruit trees, it is recommended that you don't prune between March 30th and May 30th. This will be most helpful in preventing "fire plight".
